About this role
Rillet is an AI-native ERP platform backed by Sequoia, a16z, and Iconiq. They're looking for a Design Engineer who sits at the full intersection of design and engineering — someone who cares as much about pixel-perfect details as about clean, performant code. This isn't a hand-off role: you own the full arc from visual concept to shipped product.
You'll lead Rillet's platform refresh — evolving their design language, building the design system, and translating brand direction into a cohesive product experience.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
• Drive the platform refresh across core surfaces: launchpad, navigation, login, tables, workflows, empty states, and high-frequency product experiences
• Turn rough ideas into shipped product — from Figma exploration through to polished, production-ready UI
• Build and evolve Rillet's design system: tokens, components, interaction patterns, motion principles, layout primitives, and documentation
• Prototype in code when Figma is too slow or too static — especially for motion, interaction, AI workflows, and complex financial surfaces
• Identify design-to-code workflows that should be automated or agentized
• Bring opinions, taste, and alternatives — not just implementation
• Notice what's off before anyone asks. Then fix it.
WHO YOU ARE
• Exceptional taste — you can tell when something is almost right but not quite, and you know how to fix it
• You genuinely enjoy both design and engineering and don't see them as separate phases
• Frontend fluency — you understand modern web interfaces and can write clean, performant production code; React preferred, Svelte a bonus
• Systems thinker who cares about reusable primitives, scalable patterns, and design tokens
• High craft across spacing, type, hierarchy, motion, affordances, loading states, accessibility, and performance
• Comfort using AI tools to move faster and prototype more broadly — without outsourcing taste
• Portfolio showing strong visual judgment, interaction sensibility, and the ability to move between design exploration and production
